It was lucky for me to have an opportunity to work in the agency environment back in April 2022 at April Advertising. During a packaging design job for Johnnie Walker with Thao Duong, the Creative Director. She asked me if I wanted to try working as her Art Director. I was shocked since I had no idea about working in advertising. But, again, my curiosity said yes.
First-ever TVC I managed as an Art Director (only at Online stage)
Number One Chanh Dau was one of my first project at April Advertising. By the time I joined this project, it was at the Online stage for executing VFX, SFX and finalizing the TVC.
I was shocked again by the working speed here. And I was responsibled for some other projects at the same time. Big thanks to Thao Duong, my Creative Director, for being patience and supportive to guide me with my new experience.
However, with a background of practicing 3D, I was quickly enough to define this TVC’s problems. Materials were not a final quality because they were lacked of displacment map, rough map, specular map and maybe more if we had time to review more. Lighting and composition were not really there yet. The movement of the big robot was weird as my comment.
I had a lot of feedbacks ready to release. However, that was the time I learned about project management. We did not have time for any more rounds of adjustments. We had to define what feedbacks were the most important at the time.
The second TVC, also for Tan Hiep Phat
When I was assigned for this TVC project, we had just finished the script. Basically, my Creative Director had to guide me from the very beginning of a TVC production process from creating storyboard, making it animated, sending it for market tests, preparing Pre-Production Proposal for the PPM, preparing to on set, casting, performing my duty at shooting day, following Offline stage, writing feedbacks to following Online stage and finally, wrapping up the project with master release.
For me, I treasure these experience working in a production pipeline of a TVC. After that, a combination skill set between Design / Branding and Advertising had been created. I feel it that way.
Thanks.
